Four programmes, delivered year-round by volunteers

Għaqda Festa Esterna Madonna Ta’ Lourdes San Ġwann (VO/1980) runs a structured annual programme of cultural heritage preservation, youth empowerment, civic integration and charitable outreach across San Ġwann and Malta.

Program 01

Cultural & Heritage Festival Operations

Designing, organising, and executing annual external celebrations, street decorations, artistic lighting displays, and historical pageantry that highlight the unique heritage of San Ġwann.

What we deliver

  • Year-round restoration of statues, pedestals, banners and ornamental woodwork in our workshop
  • Design and safe installation of street illumination in coordination with licensed contractors
  • Liturgical and civic programme planning with the parish and the local council
  • Documentation and archiving of decorative artefacts, photographs and oral histories

Program 02

Youth Engagement & Skills Workshops

Hosting hands-on workshops in traditional craftsmanship, event management, digital media, music, and public leadership for local youth.

What we deliver

  • Apprenticeship sessions in gilding, papier-mâché, painting and carpentry with senior craftsmen
  • Event logistics and volunteer coordination training ahead of each major activity
  • Photography, videography and social media storytelling workshops
  • Public speaking, teamwork and committee leadership formation for members aged 14–25

Program 03

Civic Assistance & Community Welfare Outreach

Partnering with local charitable groups to support elderly residents, low-income families, and vulnerable community members during holidays and throughout the year.

  • Companionship visits and transport assistance for elderly and housebound residents

  • Planting and maintenance of shrubs and planters in public areas
  • Waste-reduction and reusable-materials policy across all our events
  • Post-event restoration so streets are returned cleaner than we found them
